This was our second trip to Cloudland Canyon campground. We only had one night, but its not too far from home so we headed out on Saturday. The wild blueberries were just starting to ripen so we set up camp and headed out to pick. We gathered about a pint and headed back to camp. DH got the fire started and I was making dinner when we saw a doe. She was grazing about 40 feet from us. She wandered closer and closer, I thought she was going to walk right into the campsite. She stopped about 15 feet from us and stayed for 10 minutes just eating leaves. Then she wandered off. It was amazing!
We had some serious thunderstorms, one right in the middle of dinner. I managed to get into the tent with my potatoes and onions, but had to sacrifice the corn on the cobb and hamburger to the sudden deluge. No smores either as the rain dumped a good 2" in a matter of minutes, putting out the fire for the night. The tent leaked a little bit, but considering the downpour we considered ourselves lucky. After the rain stopped we grabbed the tarp and strung it up over the tent with a small overhang to allow us to get in and out the door. Thank heavens we did, the next downpour hit shortly after. The rain cooled everything off quite a bit and we actually needed the sleeping bag we brought just in case. I was freezing!
Sunday morning I fired up the Jet Boil and was making pancakes with our fresh blueberries and a doe wandered close to our campsite again. We're pretty sure it was the same one. It was a good trip and we're going back next weekend over the 4th.
